We will begin our preschool year with 'The Little Red Hen'. Our Arizona Puppet Theatre was conveniently presenting this story for the last several weeks. So of course we had to go! Rose Red loves the theatre. They did a wonderful job with this story, singing lots of well-known kids tunes throughout and sticking rather nicely to the classic tale (not too many modern deviations!).
They spent some time after the performance showing the kids how the puppets worked.
We went to the Great Arizona Puppet Theater today and saw a production of the Three Little Pigs. Rose Red enjoyed it immensely and was dancing and wiggling and clapping with excitement even before anyone else was. I had told the story to her a couple of times from memory when traveling in the car over the last several weeks so I think it helped her to follow along and really enjoy it more throughly ~ which she absolutely did! But why I ask you can't these type of shows stick to the classic story ?! Why do they throw in a lot of unnecessary dialouge which in my opinion detracts from the original tale?
They did bring a pig puppet out and show us how it worked after the performance which was neat to see.
And Rose Red really enjoyed seeing all the puppets for display there at the theater. These are just a few.
We had a wonderful surprise today! We swung by our local bookstore so Rose Red could look at books and play with their Thomas the Train set (which she loves ~ she is thrilled with trains right now) and we were fortunate enough to catch a free mini-production of the Wizard of Oz in the children's book corner! The actors were kids and part of a local theatre company. They arrived in full costume and Rose Red was entranced! There was singing and dancing and wonderful actors. We enjoyed ourselves immensely. What a treat!
